Will it actually happen? We should find out soon
Sitting safely in the top ten of our favorite smartphones right now, the OnePlus 5 is one of the best phones you can buy at the moment... but that said, in some markets it's currently off sale.
On the official OnePlus website you can no longer buy the OnePlus 5, which is particularly strange as the handset is less than six months old.
Why would OnePlus drop the phone from its range so early? The answer now seems clear, as OnePlus has confirmed that the OnePlus 5T is on the way.
This doesn't come as much of a surprise, since last year the company revealed the OnePlus 3 in June followed by a new replacement handset called theOnePlus 3T in November 2016.
Rumors and leaks are revealing much about the upcoming phone, so here's everything we've seen so far about the OnePlus 5T.
OnePlus 5T release date and price
- Confirmed for a November 16 launch, November 21 release
- Likely to cost less than most flagships
- Expect it to be priced around $479 (£449, AU$630)
OnePlus 5T design and screen
- Similar design to the OnePlus 5, but larger screen
- Rumored 6-inch display with an 18:9 ratio
- Currently uncertain on the screen resolution though
Rumors for the OnePlus 5T are starting to ramp up speed, but the most information we've seen so far has come from one source known to GizmoChina.
The site is confident in the anonymous source and the leak is quite extensive, suggesting the phone will come with a 2160 x 1080 resolution, 18:9 ratio 6-inch display.
That would make the OnePlus 5T look a lot like the Samsung Galaxy S8, iPhone Xand LG V30 that we've already seen launch this year.
The render below is supplied by the same source and shows how the 5T has super thin bezels. The source can't currently confirm whether it will have curved screen edges or not and there's no sign of what the phone looks like from the rear.
OnePlus 5T camera
- New camera sensors rumored to be two 20MP sensors working together
- Upgraded Portrait mode has been teased by the CEO of OnePlus
With a number of leaks also suggesting there will be two 20MP sensors on the back of the OnePlus 5T, the co-founder of OnePlus Carl Pei has also tweeted some images that look to be taken with the phone's rear camera.
You can see one below that likely shows the portrait mode on the OnePlus 5T while we have also seen Pei tease the camera in further shots and OnePlus CEOPete Lau has done a similar thing too.
OnePlus 5T specs
- Likely packs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 with lots of RAM
- Largely similar specs to what we saw on the OnePlus 5
There isn't an upgrade to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset found inside the OnePlus 5, so we can safely assume the company will decide to include that same setup with 6GB or 8GB of RAM inside the OnePlus 5T.
That'll likely mean storage options of either 64GB or 128GB, but it may be time for OnePlus to offer up a 256GB option as well. There's also no official word on whether the phone will come with microSD support, but it's not something OnePlus usually supports.
OnePlus may also upgrade the battery on the OnePlus 5T to power that new screen with an AnTuTu benchmark spotted by GizChina saying it be a 3,450mAh cell (compared to the 3,300mAh one in the OnePlus 5).
